About Dr. Robert Carr

Dr. Robert Carr was a dynamic and influential figure in the fields of public health, human rights, and social justice. With a deep commitment to empowering marginalized communities and challenging systemic injustices, Dr. Carr’s legacy continues to inspire and drive positive change around the world.

Dr. Robert Carr was a scholar and activist who worked tirelessly for human rights and an end to HIV in his native Caribbean region and globally. Dr. Carr was vocal, honest, and unapologetic in naming injustices that contribute to poor health and barriers to health services, and he was a powerful organizer and advocate for the central role of civil society and communities in the HIV response.

Robert was the executive director of Jamaica AIDS Support, and founder and Executive Director of the Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition. At the time of his death in 2011 at age 48, Robert was Policy and Advocacy Director for ICASO. He occupied many other public roles, including member of the UNAIDS Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights and the UNAIDS PCB NGO delegation, co-chair of the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS and co-chair of the Board of the Global Forum on MSM & HIV. Robert’s impressive career includes a large number of publications, journal articles and presentations.
