ISC/Aidsfonds Joint Communiqué – Change in Secretariat Leadership

Joint Communiqué by Aidsfonds and the International Steering Committee of the Robert Carr Fund

March 23, 2020

The International Steering Committee of the Robert Carr Fund and Aidsfonds as its Fund Management Agent (FMA) announce a change of leadership within the Robert Carr Fund Secretariat effective 1 April 2020.

It is with deep appreciation for his contributions to the growth, development and operations of the Robert Carr Fund that we thank Sergey Votyagov for his three and a half years of service as the Fund Director. Among his many achievements, he helped steer a successful funding recommitment in 2018, further developed an inclusive, participatory grant-making model, and enhanced learning and innovation within the Fund and between its donors and grantees. We are very pleased that Sergey will continue to put his strategic creativity to work at Aidsfonds in his new role as Strategic Policy Advisor in its International Department, starting 1 April.

A recruitment process for a new Director of the Robert Carr Fund’s Secretariat will be launched in the coming weeks.  In the short term, we are very pleased that Maria Phelan, currently the Deputy Director of the Fund’s Secretariat, will act as Interim Director. She has been with the Secretariat for three years and has extensive experience with civil society working on the HIV response. We are confident that the Fund will continue to flourish under her interim leadership.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the partners of the Robert Carr Fund – grantees, donors and civil society leadership, including the many volunteers of the ISC and the Program Advisory Committee (PAP), for their tireless support, and to wish everyone our very best wishes during these extremely difficult times across the world.

Craig McClure, Chair of the ISC

Mark Vermeulen, Executive Director of Aidsfonds
