The Robert Carr Fund presents Impact Reflection Workshop (CIRW) 2024 Learning Resource

The CIRW 2024 Learning Resource embodies RCF’s commitment to a participatory approach in all that we do. The CIRW 2024 was explicitly designed to challenge dominant narratives of “success” and “impact” in MEL practices. Our MEL calls for shifting away from rigid, quantitative-only metrics toward more qualitative and community-centered ways of documenting, measuring and reflecting on how the work we do influences change, within an increasingly hostile environment.

RCF’s 2024 Collective Impact Reflection Workshop (CIRW) brought together over 70 representatives from global and regional community-led and civil society networks across a two-day online gathering. The workshop captured critical insights from the 2022-2024 grant cycle, focusing on ISP-led networks’ resilience and innovation in addressing complex challenges for the inadequately served populations (ISPs) in the global HIV response.

As a result of collective engagement between the RCF’s grantees the following thematic Takeaways emerged around 5 key strategic areas:

The entire Collective Impact Reflection Workshop Learning Resource is available here.

The Learning Resources comprises of the Key Takeaways, Practical Resources, like Partnership Prompt Cards and Stories from the RCF grantees.

Each Key Takeaway sheet contains analysis of challenges, successful strategies, and practical tools of the relevant topic, as analyzed from submitted stories and co-created during the collective impact reflection workshop.

The Learning Resource can used for strategic planning and organizational development of community-led organizations, for capacity building and team development, for partnership development and for strengthening of network collaborations. Additionally, Learning Resource can serve as practical tool for development of the MEL framework as well as for strengthening funding proposals and donor relationships.

During the CIRW 2024 the following Practical Resources were developed:

How the Learning Resource was developed?

On completing the 2022-2024 funding cycle, our grantees submitted their significant stories reflecting on the RCF’s 4 Outcome Areas. Based on recurring topics and patterns, key topics for discussion were identified for the online workshop. After that, RCF partners from the ISP-led networks came together across two days to reflect on the identified topics through a World Cafe set up.

Key takeaways from this discussion were documented and along with a set of practical tools were included into the 2024 CIRW Learning Resource. This document aims to provide a collective overview of our takeaways and will serve as a foundation for further joint learning and organizational development.
